MEGHAN Markle and Kate Middleton have BOTH been named in Vogue’s Top 25 list of influential women for 2021.
In previous years, he fashion bible has only chosen to feature one member of the Royal Family in their annual list.
But this year, both the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge get a nod for their respective philanthropic efforts.
Introducing their annual list, the magazine says this year’s consists of women who are “paving the way” for future generations.
Kate Middleton features first and the magazine’s team of editors highlighted the Duchess’ “stealthy rise to ranking among the most popular members of The Firm”.
Explaining why the mum-of-three deserves a place on the list, the judges wrote: “With the flashier end of royal duties largely on hold during lockdown, it was her charity work rather than her fashion choices that pulled the majority of headlines.
“She used the pandemic to launch major campaigns around early-years development and continue her work trying to lift the stigma around discussing mental health, as well as supporting those living with childhood trauma.”
During the pandemic, the Duchess of Cambridge continued her charity work over video calls and recently embarked on a tour of Scotland where they hosted a movie screening in Edinburgh to thank key NHS workers.
Having been named one of the world’s most influential women by the magazine for two years in a row, Meghan Markle failed to make the cut in 2020 – with the magazine instead choosing to put the spotlight on The Queen.
However, the Duchess has bagged a coveted spot this year as the editors noted: “No woman has been more talked about on these shores in the past 12 months than Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.”
They wrote: “Now living in California, after stepping back from life as a working royal (and post that interview), her sights are firmly set on making positive waves in public life.
