Hunter McGrady Shares Candid Photo of Postpartum Body on Instagram

  • Hunter McGrady shared a mirror selfie in celebration of her postpartum body 12 days after giving birth.
  • “I feel so grateful for this body today. Leaky breasts, bloody diapers (on my end), new stretch marks, gummy tummy and all,” she wrote.
  • As a plus-size model, she’s always been vocal about body positivity and self-acceptance.

Every postpartum body is a beautiful one, and Sports Illustrated model Hunter McGrady—who welcomed her first child less than two weeks ago—wants to remind you of that.

After introducing her son Hudson Tynan Keys to the world on Instagram, the 28-year-old shared a mirror selfie wearing disposable underwear and a nursing bra. And rather than feeling down about how pregnancy and labor changed her body, she’s honoring and celebrating it.

“I’m just a girl, standing in front of a mirror, 12 days postpartum, with breast milk stains, and depends diapers, pure exhaustion, asking herself to learn to love this new body,” she captioned the post. “To give herself grace, to feel the gummy-ness of her new tummy, and the loose skin and remembering that this body not only created life, but housed it for 9 months, went 45 hours into labor, and is now feeding it daily all with one vessel. I feel so grateful for this body today. Leaky breasts, bloody diapers (on my end), new stretch marks, gummy tummy and all.”

The comments section filled with love and support, many thanking her for being so vulnerable and real. “You are a queen! 👏 thank you for being so honest about your pregnancy journey!” one person commented. “🙌🙌🙌 and she is glorious,” another added. “It’s a miraculous body,” model Paulina Porizkova wrote.

The tail end of McGrady’s pregnancy was particularly tumultuous due to the sudden loss of her younger brother Tynan on May 1. Hudson’s middle name honors his memory, and on July 1, McGrady shared a sweet video of the baby wrapped in his uncle’s shirt.

“Two months to the day since my angel brother has been gone 🕊,” she wrote. “I wanted Hudson to smell what his uncle smelled like right away, and I didn’t touch this shirt much for that exact reason. I know for a fact that my son met my sweet brother before we did, and in fact, he held him first 🤍.”

McGrady’s pregnancy was also challenged by the underrepresentation of plus-size pregnant women in the world, which is something she was often open about.

“I knew going into this my belly wasn’t going to be this perfect little round thing that just bops out,” she captioned an April Instagram post. “I knew I wouldn’t have options for maternity wear, I knew my body would change in different ways than I have seen my whole life. And yet I don’t know if I was prepared for how much the plus-size pregnancy representation lacks. There aren’t any plus-size pregnant women on magazine covers, advertisements, television, or even the brochures at the OBGYN office. It’s almost as if we don’t exist, like we’re an anomaly.”

Despite her frustrations, just as she did in her most recent post, she closed with words of optimism and encouragement.

“I’m here to tell you that you are not a ‘one off,’” she wrote to those who share her body type. “You’re not wrong for being plus-size and pregnant, your body is equipped for this. Wherever you are on your journey just remember how wildly worthy you are to experience this and enjoy every moment of it just as anyone else.”
